Breathing Exercise challenges the use of ecological and wellness tactics in biophilic design; a concept that purports to boost cognitive ability and enhance employee performance. Inspired by The Spheres, Amazon Inc.’s botanical conservatory that functions as an employee workspace in Seattle, Washington, Breathing Exercise considers capitalism’s stake in the implementation of self-care practices and its role in determining relations between humans and nature. An accompanying artist book titled Work Life Harmony comprises photographs of The Spheres and excerpts from a 1930s IBM corporate songbook.
